Shift Your Perspective with Three Steps
It is up to us to set the stage for good things to come.
So, how can we do this when we find ourselves in an emotional or mental rut? When life circumstances bog us down, how can we cultivate that inner-peace and calm to realize that this moment in time is transient and will eventually pass? How can we shift our perspective to see the light that lies at the end of the tunnel?
These three steps will help pull you out of that negative mindset and into a more relaxed state to deal with whatever comes your way.
1. Don’t resist.
Let life live through you. Feel into whatever is happening within and around you.
When life feels like it is coming at you in full force, you don’t have to reject it. Instead, take a few minutes to breathe in and out. Slow down enough to pay close attention to your life. Realize that there is no reason to ignore what is going on. When you acknowledge what is happening, you create space.
2. Write it down.
Put it on paper. Write down the things that are happening in your life or the thoughts that clutter your mind. By doing so, they become more real and tangible. The things becomes more flexible. They can move through you, and when this happens you establish the space to move forward. The point is not to dwell on these matters, but rather to open to what is possible and ahead of you. Use this technique to open you to new points of view. By first relaxing around the issues, we can simultaneously relax our grip around them to see what is before us. You life is as it is. How you feel about it is up to you.
3. Lean In and Engage.
Lean forward into your life. Open up your heart and open up to the possibilities that lie ahead. Let go (read more about this here). Let the present moment make things more apparent. Be willing to engage in your life. Seek out people who lift you up. Cultivate gratitude for the things, people and circumstances that you do love. Let go of the things that get in your way, so that you can set yourself up for the great things to come. Notice your intentions and your degree of effort to move towards them. Step into life. Be willing to experience your reality as it is now. Accept the unknown.
Have the courage to do what is possible. Let your perspective be a reflection of the radical courage that is within you to see the world before you and all the good things to come.
Set the stage. Shift your perspective and lean in.
